About Rajaji National Park
A paradise for nature lover's Rajaji National Park is situated in the state Uttaranchal. It is an amalgamation of three sanctuaries- Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla sanctuary spans over an area of 820sq.
Famous for its pristine scenic beauty Rajaji is located along the foothills of Himalaya along the hills of Shiwalik ranges and represent the largest area of Shiwalik eco-system. The imperial Ganges flows through the area of the park for a distance of 24 km, with innumerable streams and brooks making it rich and diverse. The captivating landscape of and wild life of Rajaji offer ample opportunities to the nature lovers. Flora & Fauna in Rajaji National Park Rajaji is famous for its diverse and varied eco system. This place is thickly foliated by Sal, Western Gangetic, Moist and Northern dry Deciduous and Khair-Sissoo forests. There are Low Alluvial Savannah Woodlands which cover the drier southern margins of the park and Shiwalik Chir-Pine on the high reaches of the hills. It has got the highest population of Elephants in Uttarakhand. Besides these there are as many as 23 species of mammals and 315 bird species. It is a good place to spot tigers, leopard and other wild animals like Jungle Cat,The Goat-like Goral,Himalayan yellow throated marten, Indian Hare ,SlothBear, Himalayan Black Bear, jackal, python etc. These abundance of nature's bounties attract a large number of wildlife conversationalists, nature lovers and eco-friends to visit this most breathtaking wilderness area of Uttrakhand. It is also a excellent spot to the ornithologist because of the migratory birds who come in the winter. Other avian species here are Pea fowl, Jungle fowl, Kaleej pheasant, Hornbil, Woodpecker, Thrushes, Kingfishers, Parakeets, Warbler, Barbet, Finch, Indian roller and Oriola. Spotting animals is an exciting activity in the national park and it becomes more interesting when we go for safaris to see the jungle. There are Elephant safari and jeep safari available in the forest to give the tour a memorable experience. But for that we have to take permission from the forest department before entering the premises of park. Best Time to Visit Rajaji National Park The ideal time to visit the Rajaji National Park is during the 15th November to 15th June, because it is the main period for migratory birds. The climate here is tropical with hot summers and cold winters. How to Get there Air : The nearest airport is Dehradoon to access the park. Rail : Nearest rail station is Haridwar and Dehradun.
