Dudhwa National Park
In the terai of India-Nepal boarder in the foot hills of Himalaya lies the Dudhwa National park in Uttar Pradesh. Spread over an area of 490 sq km this national park attracts tourists with its mosaic grass lands, swampy marshes and dense Sal forest. The landscape of the park is truly beautiful with the Suheli river flows through the Southern boundary of the park.
It became a national park in 1977 and adopted by Project tiger in 1988 and thus now it is a tiger reserve. Though sight of tiger is very rare here because of the dense forest of the area. Besides Tigers, Leopards, Hispid Hares, Swamp Deer (Barasingha) and Rhinos thrive amidst the vegetation. Flora and Fauna in Dudhwa Dudhwa national park is home to one of the finest Sal trees in India. It is also famous for its extensive stretch of green grass land. Other tree species found here are Shorea robusta, Terminalis tomentosa, Adina cordifolia, Eugenia jambolana, Terminalia belerica, Bombax malabaricum and Dalbergia sissoo, and more. Famous mainly for tiger it is a wild abode to the number of other animals like near about 37 species of mammals and 16 pieces of reptiles. Leopards, Hispid Hares, Swamp Deer, Sambar Deer, Rhinoceros, Sloth Bear, Ratel, Barking Deer, Jackal, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer, Civet, Fishing Cat and many more thrive amidst the vegetation of Dudhwa. It is also delight for the bird watchers. The marshlands of the jungle are home to migratory birds and 400 other species of birds including the Swamp Partridge, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Bengal Florican, plenty of painted storks, sarus cranes, owls, barbets, woodpeckers, minivets and many more. Most of the avian fauna of the park are aquatic in nature and dwell in the lakes of the park. Other Attractions In Dudhwa There is no provision for jeep safaris and guides provided by the forest department. Jeeps or mini buses can be taken on rent to move around inside the park. There are elephant rides through the Park are also available, which are quite interesting. Best Time to Visit Dudhwa National Park The best time to visit the place is November to May. The park remains closed during July to October. How to Get there Air : Lucknow is the nearest airport to reach Dudhwa. It is 182 km far from Lucknow. Rail & road : The park is easily accessible by train and the nearest stations are Dudhwa, Palia and Mailani. However the most convenient way would be to travel to Lucknow and then take a train to any of the nearer stations or take a car or bus to reach the destination. General Info / Tips
